78-Year-Old Ukrainian Woman Stays in War-Torn Area to Care for Homeless Animals

Meet Grandma Zinaida.
This 78-year-old woman made the choice to stay behind in Ukraine while others fled the war zone to care for the stray and abandoned animals. She is our hero, and your donations are ensuring that she gets all the pet food she needs to feed the countless dogs and cats under her care.
United for Animals, Greater Good Charities' partner who helps distribute the donated pet food across Ukraine, shared Zinaida's inspiring story with us.

"When local residents were forced to flee, she promised to look after their pets, providing them with comfort during difficult times. Years later, Zinaida has kept that promise, even as many owners have been unable to return.
Every day, she ensures the animals in her community are well-fed and cared for, viewing each one as a child in need of protection.
Despite the cruelty she has witnessed, Zinaida remains hopeful and dedicated to her cause, demonstrating that even in dark times, one can find light. Through her kindness, she not only saves animals but also inspires others, helping them find hope amid the war. With support from Greater Good Charities and their donors, her efforts have made life a little easier and safer for homeless animals in Ukraine’s front-line cities.”
