After Waiting 7 Long Years, Shelter Dog Kylo Finally Finds His Person

Seven years is a long time to wait to find love, but Kylo Jace never lost hope that someday he would find his perfect match.

His patience paid off.

Kylo was the longest resident at SPCA of Anne Arundel County in Maryland where he formed a close bond with a few staff and volunteers who became his caretakers or "approved friends". He has a hard time trusting people and takes a long time to feel comfortable enough to show his silly side.

The shaggy dog was well cared for but was missing out on having a home of his own and someone to love unconditionally. So, the search continued.

The shelter was thrilled to share the news that Kylo was adopted. It was a long process to earn Kylo's trust, but his new mom was determined to show him the love he deserved. She visited him twice a week at the shelter for the past seven months getting to know him and letting him get to know her at his pace until she was in his circle of trust.

They even did a few car rides and home visits before it was made official. On his adoption day tears of joy were running down the faces of all those who cared and loved Kylo for the past seven years.

The shelter wrote, "We truly are on Cloud 9 knowing he gets to spend the rest of his life loved for exactly who he is! None of this would have been possible without our absolutely incredible volunteers and staff who put their heart and soul into Kylo's well being for the past 7 years and for his new mom for taking a chance on a dog that many others probably would have given up on for an “easier” dog. THIS is why we do what we do!!!! For the moments like this!!!"

This heartwarming story gets better...his adoption fee was paid in memory of Jim Ehrig (one of Kylo's fans) who sadly passed away before he could see him adopted. Staff shared, "We know that Jim would be so happy to hear Kylo’s happy ending."

All dogs deserve to find a loving home, and we are so happy for Kylo and his new mom. Thank you for adopting! Check out more adoptable dogs at their shelter here.
