Andy Cohen Reunites With His Former Rescue Dog After 3 Years Apart

Andy Cohen reunited with his former rescue dog, Wacha, after three years apart.

Cohen shared about the reunion with the beagle-foxhound mix on Instagram. He captioned the post, "Saw an old friend yesterday. It was heaven."

In the accompanying photos, you can see Cohen and Wacha soaking each other in after so much time apart. The second photo shows Cohen burying his face into Wacha's fur in a sweet and emotional embrace.

Cohen adopted Wacha from See Spot Rescued back in 2013.

Cohen cared for the dog for 7 good years. But after Cohen's son, Benjamin, was born, the new dad felt it was time to say goodbye.

Cohen kept Wacha until Benjamin was a little over a year old. If you know anything about toddlers, you know they can be pretty harsh toward dogs. They like to grab hair and yank. They poke eyes. It takes time for them to learn how to be gentle with animals, and not all dogs respond well to that.

In 2020, Cohen rehomed Wacha. He cited concerns for his son, Benjamin, after the dog displayed aggressive behaviors.

It's not uncommon for parents to rehome pets after their children are born. While parents should factor in the pets they currently have when welcoming a baby home, it doesn't always happen. In addition, it's hard to know how a pet will react to a newborn baby or pesky toddler. They could be loving and protecting toward the baby. Or, they could be aggressive and jealous.

Cohen didn't share the circumstances of his reunion with Wacha. Hopefully they'll be able to stay in touch going forward! It's sad that he abandoned the dog years ago, but it's nice to know he's keeping up with his life still.
