Thanks to your continued support, over 60 shelter pets were flown out of overcrowded shelters in southern states and safely arrived in New Jersey to find forever homes. 

On April 7, 56 dogs - including asymptomatic heartworm-positive dogs like Satori - and 7 cats boarded this month's Save a Heart Flight to Freedom. The dogs with heartworm disease will be treated before adoption. 

This also marks the 5th anniversary of Greater Good Charities and Boehringer Ingelheim's Save a Heart initiative that has transported over 1,800 asymptomatic heartworm-positive dogs to safety and provided care. 

As the plane touched down, staff and volunteers waited on the tarmac to greet each animal with a smile and sweet words of welcome. 

Paws are on the ground, and the animals are settling in at their new shelters. Some of the dogs could barely contain their excitement as they start their next adventure...searching for a family of their own. 

St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, one of the receiving shelters, posted, "This morning, we welcomed 45 cats and dogs from Louisiana, each looking for a fresh start and a loving home." They are also the new caretakers of Satori and many others. 

They went on to thank everyone for their support and wrote, "A heartfelt thank you to Boehringer Ingelheim for covering treatment for our heartworm-positive dogs, as well as for thousands more heartworm-positive dogs at our partner shelters in Louisiana and Alabama."
