Although we may hear about many different restaurants, it always seems as if the Waffle House makes the news. Sometimes it's because of the excellent service they provide, and at other times, it's just because they are a staple in the restaurant industry.

Perhaps that is why we were not surprised to find a Waffle House in Little Rock, Arkansas in the news. In this particular case, however, it has to do with one of the waiters and a little boy who enjoys visiting the restaurant regularly.

According to The Washington Post, eight-year-old Kayzen Hunter enjoys visiting the Waffle House in Little Rock. When he does visit, his favorite waiter, Devonte Gardner, is there to welcome him. He gives him high-fives and ensures the entire family sits in his section.

The family enjoys eating their favorite foods from the Waffle House and enjoys some good conversation with Gardner. They also learned what goes on behind the scenes in his life, and it touched a little Kayzen's heart.

Gardner had to vacate his previous apartment with his two little daughters and wife. They left most of their belongings behind because of a black mold infestation, and the apartment was overrun with rats.

Since then, the family has been living on the tips Gardner manages to make at the Waffle House. They are staying in a local motel, and they are struggling from day to day.

In speaking with The Washington Post, Gardner said it is difficult to get ahead, even when working double shifts. He said: "I'm thankful to have a job that I enjoy, but it's hard to save enough to improve my family's situation."

Gardner's situation touched the young boy's heart. He also had to leave home with his family in 2019 due to mold problems.

Kayzen's father, Korey Hunter, said that everything in the house was ruined after the water heater leaked and mold grew in the wall behind it. Once he got into the air conditioner return, it blew out everywhere in the house.

Mold is no small problem. According to the CDC, prolonged exposure to it could cause serious health issues. Many people are allergic to mold, and if it has the opportunity with moisture, air, and a food source, it will grow.

After Kayzen learned that Gardner worked every day because he needed a car, he acted. He asked his mother, Vittoria, to set up a GoFundMe account to raise $5000 for the new vehicle.

After the word spread, the funds just kept coming in. At last check, the fundraiser had brought in more than $112,000.

There was also an update provided that Gardner and his family would be paying for the full year's rent in a new apartment they found. They wouldn't have to worry about that monthly expense.

Next, Gardner will look for a car and put some money aside for a rainy day. According to Yahoo!, he said he was really touched by it all and wrapped it up, saying: "And as far as my little buddy goes, he's my best friend for life."
