Christmas From the Perspective of Long-Stay Shelter Animals
It is the most wonderful time of the year, or so that is what shelter dogs and cats continue to hear.
Some of these dogs and cats have been waiting months and even years for a forever home.
They see the cheer on the faces of adopters and the lucky dogs and cats that find their person, but countless long-stay animals are waiting to experience the joy of the holidays in a loving home.
They have been told the stories of Christmas miracles and how if you are a good boy or girl a man in a big red suit will bring you a present.
Each night, the dogs and cats in shelters make one wish as they fall asleep - for Santa to bring them a loving family of their own.
They awake the next day full of hope that today will be the day. Sadly, many have been waiting a long time for a home and are starting to lose hope as the stress of shelter life takes a toll on their mental and physical state.
These animals may need to be the only pet in the home or require a special diet or medication due to their age, but they promise to love you with their whole heart and just ask the same in return.
While shelter staff and volunteers do their best to shower the homeless animals with love and affection, it doesn’t compare to a quiet home with a loving family.
These sweet dogs and cats will continue to wait, not for Saint Nick but for someone willing to give them a second chance.
We encourage you to foster or adopt a long-stay animal from your local shelter. You will get the most loyal friend and save lives.
