Animal shelters in the South are overflowing with homeless dogs and cats as new ones continue to arrive. Highly adoptable animals are at risk of euthanasia due to lack of resources, space, and adopters. 

That is why with your continued support, we conduct a monthly Flight to Freedom with our partner Greater Good Charities. This month's flight was part of NBCUniversal Local's 12th annual Clear the Shelters event. 

On August 4, 54 dogs and 6 cats were taken from overcrowded shelters in Louisiana and Alabama and flown to freedom in Wisconsin. The dogs and cats were welcomed by staff and volunteers before being transported back to shelters to settle in before meeting adopters. 

Washington County Humane Society, one of the receiving shelters, shared that they welcomed 11 dogs and 6 cats from the flight into the shelter and all are available for adoption. 

Clear the Shelters nationwide pet adoption campaign is running through August 31 with over 1,700 partnering shelters to help many cats and dogs find loving homes.
