Hurricane Milton wreaked havoc on Florida as search and rescue missions begin. Several areas are still underwater, and roads are impassable due to down trees and power lines.

Some of the worst damage was caused by tornadoes produced by Milton prior to its landfall.

People were preparing for storm surge, high winds, and heavy rain, but not for numerous deadly tornadoes.

Fort Pierce's retirement community, Spanish Lakes Country Club Village, was ravaged by a tornado that destroyed homes and resulted in multiple deaths.

Homes were demolished and all that was left were large piles of debris. The heartbreaking scene was covered by CBS Miami reporter Morgan Rynor.

While covering the sad story, Rynor reported some good news. The crew heard a dog barking near a pile of rubble and thanks to a neighbor managed to locate a small dog.

At first, they believed the dog was Benji but later discovered it was 14-year-old Lulu. Sadly, her owners were among the victims of the tornado. She was examined by a vet before being reunited with family.

The grandson of Lulu's owners came forward to care for the sweet dog and shared more good news. Lulu's dog sibling, Shiba, was also found alive. The Rottweiler was so happy to see Lulu again.

CBS Miami shared the happy reunion on Facebook. The dogs will be surrounded by family as they grieve for their owners.

About 125 homes were destroyed, mostly in the senior community. St. Lucie County Sheriff, Keith Pearson, said, "Crews are still out there searching the area. We're not gonna stop until we double check, triple check, make sure that anybody in there who needs to be rescued is gonna be rescued."

Thousands of pets are displaced after Hurricane Helene and Milton left a path of devastation across several states. Animal shelters are overwhelmed and need our help.

Join us in sending pet food to feed shelter and displaced pets as communities begin to recover.
