Update: Rusty has undergone three surgeries to repair the damage to his body and continues to "fight with quiet courage". He is being cared for by a veterinary tech to ensure he continues to heal without problems.

Meet Rusty. 

This little Chihuahua is a survivor. He was found in critical condition and unable to lift his head after a brutal animal attack.

The massive gash on his neck was infected with maggots, and he was barely hanging on. He was rushed to an animal hospital where the medical team determined he needed emergency surgery to survive. 

Despite his heart murmur, they proceeded with surgery to save his life. He survived the surgery; however, he is not out of the woods yet.

While his wound was sutured, a severe abdominal hernia was found that will need surgery to repair.
