Two Cats Who Survived Brutal Dog Attack Need Your Help To Recover

There are over 3 million stray cats and dogs roaming the streets of Greece as the number continues to rise. The skinny animals can be seen in every city, especially around Athens. Careless owners who abandon their unwanted pets on the streets are only adding to the crisis.

There are kind locals who attempt to feed the stray cats and try and keep an eye on their health. When Leo and his sister Tabitha didn't show up for food the community members became worried and went to look for them.

They found Leo first, thankfully alive, in a neighbor’s yard inside an olive bucket - he was unable to move and crying out for help.

As they gently removed him from the bucket, rescuers noticed pieces of skin and fur were missing, exposing bone and muscle on his right leg and arm. Tabitha was later found in a similar state. Leo and Tabitha were brutally attacked and mauled by dogs in the neighborhood, leaving both cats with several injuries.

They were brought to the veterinarian clinic together and immediately started on antibiotics and pain medication. It will take months of care at the vet clinic for the cats to make a full recovery.

In late 2023, Greater Good Charities were approached by groups working in the city of Xanthi, Northern Greece, to assist in the support of over 600 pets seeking out an existence in and around a municipal rubbish site. Since then, working alongside the Animal Rescue Site and community partners, they have provided food, specialist medical care, funded high quality spay-neuter services and supported foster and adoption for dozens of pets.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Greater Good Charities and the Animal Rescue Site are in the process of deepening our commitment to the pets of Xanthi, ensuring every animal has the support it needs. We are also expanding our reach to several new areas within Greece, supporting both cats and dogs in need.

Leo and Tabitha are just two of the many pets we're helping in Greece, but we can't cover their ongoing care without your support. Help us meet our goal of $6,000 for Leo, Tabitha, and pets like them.
