Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) responded to a call about a car engulfed in flames in a parking lot. When they arrived, they spotted something moving in the back.

A dog was trapped inside the burning car and was trying to get away from the flames and smoke. The owner and friends were inside the grocery store unaware that the vehicle was on fire.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames and rescue the poor dog before it was too late. "He was in rough shape, with melted whiskers and clearly needing some help. So our firefighters gave him oxygen and some much-needed TLC. And then... he started to perk up. A little more oxygen. A little more time. And suddenly, our patient was back on his feet, running around and happily reunited with his owner," SVFD shared.

Photos of firefighters giving the dog oxygen, the reunion with his owner, and the charred car were shared on Facebook by SVFD. The dog looks so happy and grateful for his rescuers. Firefighters don’t need capes to be heroes. Their compassion, courage, and willingness to save even the smallest, most helpless lives remind us that true heroes show up when they’re needed most.

SVFD concluded the post with, "A scary morning ended with the best possible outcome: a family back together. That's why we do what we do."

We are so glad this story had a happy ending. Check out more rescue stories below.
