A horrific case has unsettled a small Alaskan community. Two French bulldogs went missing nearly a month ago before routine inspections revealed their remains in crab pots.

The dogs, Yoda and Whiskey, belonged to the Martin family. They were last seen on February 13 during a typical workday at a logging site near Thorne Bay, People. When the family took a break, the dogs vanished. Authorities later found their remains in a pair of crab pots during a routine shellfish pot check on March 14.

An Alarming Turn of Events

Family members recall that the dogs always accompanied them at work. Their sudden disappearance raised alarm and suspicion.

As WKRC reports, the Martins had not experienced such a loss before. They posted flyers and offered a reward for any information about the missing pets. When leads dried up, they increased the reward, hoping to spur a breakthrough. Despite these efforts, the dogs did not reappear. Instead, their remains were discovered in a pair of crab pots during a routine inspection by Alaska Wildlife Troopers.

The discovery shocked local residents. Authorities found no immediate evidence of a natural accident.

The troopers mentioned that the case might involve a personal motive. Kane Martin, one of the dog owners, shared his concern that the act could be a vendetta.

“They were the sweetest dogs you’d have ever met. They would have jumped in a vehicle with anybody,” Esther Martin, the dogs’ owner, told KTUU.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Concerns

Authorities are now following several leads. They believe that someone from the nearby Sandy Beach Road might be involved, the New York Post reports. Local law enforcement continues to search for additional clues. Investigators have not yet named a suspect, and details remain scarce.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers have confirmed that they are gathering witness statements and examining the crime scene thoroughly. Their investigation remains active and ongoing.

The troopers even placed the crab pots back in the water in hopes that someone would return to retrieve them. However, the pots disappeared in the middle of the night, adding another layer of mystery. The unusual circumstances have left the community unsettled. Many residents fear that a personal grudge may have led to this act. Local opinions vary, yet the consensus remains that this is a rare and disturbing event.

Family Grief and a Call for Answers

The Martins have been candid about their loss. They described the dogs as friendly and full of life. The family had a daily routine of taking the bulldogs to work. Their disappearance, followed by the grim discovery, has devastated them.

“I’m still in disbelief,” Kane Martin told KRBD. The family now offers a $2,500 reward for any information that might lead to the arrest of those responsible.

The loss has also triggered discussions on animal safety in work environments. Community members and animal lovers alike express their hope that the investigation will uncover the truth swiftly. Some question how the dogs could have been taken without any witnesses noticing. Others wonder if a deeper, personal motive might be at play.
