26 Horses Die In Georgia Barn Fire

Owners are mourning big losses after 26 horses passed away in a barn fire in Forsyth County, Georgia.

According to a Forsyth County press release, the Forsyth County Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Blue Springs Farm around 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 6, for a report of smoke.

By the time the fire department arrived, it was too late. The press release says they found a "fully involved large barn containing multiple horse stalls. The fire was well advanced, and it was determined that the fire had been burning for a prolonged time before being discovered by the first 911 callers."

Because the fire engulfed the entire building, it was too late to do any internal operations. Instead, the fire department worked to contain the fire to that one barn structure.

In the end, they discovered that 26 horses who had been boarded in the barn were deceased. No firefighters nor civilians were injured in the fire.

Blue Springs Farms took to Facebook to share about the tragedy.

They said, "Thank you all for the outpouring of support, strength, and love during this awful tragedy. In addition to the 6 amazing horses that Blue Springs Farm lost yesterday, we shared the barn with our dear friends of Carney Performance Horses, and they heartbreakingly lost 18 of their own talented partners as well."

People have gathered together to start a GoFundMe to support Blue Springs Farm and help get its riding program back together. To date, the fundraising has earned over $40,000 for the farm.

There's no way to make up for the loss of life, but hopefully they can recover from this tragedy.
