Golden Retriever Escapes the Horrors of War and Quickly Finds a Place to Call Home
Andrea Powell
As the war continues in Ukraine, there are more and more animals in need of rescuing from the frontlines. We recently shared a story about a husband and wife who were caring for dozens of dogs and cats before their home was bombed.
The wife was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. Her husband returned to rescue the dogs and cats and find them new homes. All of the animals were once abandoned and taken in by the loving couple. They refuse to leave them behind again.

The frightened dogs are being rescued from the rubble by the husband who risks his life to return to the active war zone to save them. Rescuers are waiting to take the dogs from him so he can return to save more.
Krystina, owner of Under the Sun Shelter, took some of the dogs, including a golden retriever mix we are calling Rosie.

The war survivor fell asleep when she realized she was finally safe. The sweet pup was adopted the same day she was rescued and headed straight to her new home.

She quickly settled in at her new home and made friends with her new canine sibling. The two now go on walks and nap together in a safe environment. Rosie finally found a loving home with a family who will never abandon her.

This is what the devoted couple who previously cared for her and Krystina want for every rescued dog and cat.

While Rosie found her happy ending, there are still hundreds waiting at Under the Sun for a loving home. Krystina has offered to take five more dogs from the couple, even though her shelter is full.
Donate today to help feed and care for rescued animals in Ukraine while they wait for a family of their own.
