Millions of Ukrainians have fled their homes due to the ongoing war. However, countless elderly people and abandoned pets remain in war-torn areas and are surviving together.

A group of elderly women called the "Grandmas of Odessa" are using their small pensions, about $100 a month, and yards to help feed and care for abandoned and homeless animals.

United for Animals (UfA) shared the heartwarming story with us. Your free clicks at The Animal Rescue Site, trivia answered on Freekibble and generous donations have helped send much-needed pet food to these heroes.

"This act of kindness is their only solace in the loneliness they face during the war. These grandmothers spend a significant portion of their modest income on food for the stray cats, understanding that these animals also need love and care. They go out daily to feed their four-legged friends, talk to them, pet them, and bring them food. Each visit to the cats brings them joy and a sense of purpose, adding meaning to their lives," states UfA.

Their yards have become sanctuaries for the homeless pets providing shelter and nutritious food. They are our heroes!

UfA said it perfectly, "Their selfless love for the animals is a shining example of humanity and kindness in the hardest of times."

Thanks to your support, 56 grandmas received pallets of wet cat food and dog food to help feed 1671 cats and countless dogs.

Evacuations continue...

Evacuations are still being performed to help the elderly who are struggling to leave their homes that hold so many precious memories. UfA partners, Denys Khrystov and Leonid Nomerchuk, enter dangerous areas to save people and pets.

"For many Ukrainians, these animals are the most precious things they could take with them during the evacuation. Denys and Leonid understand the importance of these bonds and do everything possible to ensure the safety of both the animals and their owners," states UfA.

They praise the heroes for their efforts and said, "Each trip is a trial where every kilometer can be the last, but they do not stop. Their heroism and self-sacrifice are an example for all of us."
