How Dogs Say "I Love You" & How You Can Say It Back

We all know that dogs love unconditionally (just another thing we can learn from dogs), but do you know the ways that dogs show their love to their humans?
Philip Tedeschi - Director Emeritus and Founder of the Institute for Human-Animal Connection, a clinical professor at the Graduate School of Social Work, and member of Rover’s Dog People Panel - believes dogs and humans have their own love language.

"I have been studying dogs for decades and one thing is abundantly clear: Dogs have the ability to love their human counterparts, reciprocate love shown towards them and communicate that affection in a number of subtle and overt ways,” states Tedeschi.

He believes dogs show their love in the following ways:
- wagging their tails
- leaning into you
- asking to play fetch
- staring at you with those adorable puppy eyes
- licking/kisses and even wrestling

Returning their love is easy, just engage with them through play, cuddling, and belly scratches. Tasty treats are also a great way to spoil your furry friend, but in moderation.
Don't forget to shower them with kisses, if they will tolerate it.

Rover conducted a new study of 1,000 pet owners and found that pets teach us about friendship, make us laugh, and play a role in who we date.
- 76% of pet parents say that pets have taught them about friendship. There is no friend more loyal than a dog. Good or bad, they are always by your side.
- More than half (50.3%) said that the funniest and happiest moments of the day usually involve pets.
- 64% of respondents said that they would be more likely to be attracted to someone with a pet.
This may come as no surprise, 92% of pet parents believe their pet loves them.

In a tough world where most believe it is "survival of the fittest", Tedeschi believes that kindness, empathy, and cooperation are the keys to success in what he calls "survival of the friendliest".
"It’s clear that cooperation and kindness are some of the most important qualities for survival. People, and other animals, thrive when treated with respect, dignity and love," concludes Tedeschi.

This proves that all you really need is love, especially from a dog. Be sure to put your phone down, remove your earbuds, and soak up all the love that your dog has to give.
