Eek! Halloween is quickly approaching. Do you have your costume and more importantly your pet's costume picked out? 

Some people are planners (still working on that...) and started their Halloween preparations in September. For the rest of us, it is a mad scramble to find the perfect costume in time. Panic and fear are supposed to be associated with Halloween, right?

Well, there is no need to worry as you still have time to find or make the perfect costume for your furry friend. Pet owners don't hold back when it comes to Halloween and according to National Retail Federation’s (NFR) annual consumer survey are planning on spending $0.92 billion on pet costumes. 

The annual Halloween consumer shopping survey conducted by NFR since 2005, asked 7,889 consumers about their shopping plans for 2026. They are planning on purchasing costumes for themselves, their children, pets, and candy, of course. 

The survey found 96% of consumers planning to buy sweets, accounting for $4.1 billion in spending. It is also the most popular purchase for Halloween. Whether it is for the trick-or-treaters or for yourself, no judgement here. However, never give candy to your pet - only dog biscuits or pet-specific treats. 

With rising costs impacting everyone, consumers are looking for value and deals. "Consumers continue to make Halloween a spending priority, but they are also approaching the season with affordability in mind," said NRF Vice President of Industry and Consumer Insights Allison Zeller.
