Wilmington, NC, firefighters joined search and rescuers with North Carolina Task Force 11 to help save stranded people and pets in areas devastated by Helene.

As the water continued to rise, people climbed on the roof of their home to stay safe. They remained there for days afterward waiting for help to arrive.

Rescuers arrived in boats to help people and their pets evacuate the dangerous areas. The courageous team has successfully completed dozens of rescue missions and saved many lives.

They even befriended a lost dog named Jo Jo who will be reunited with his family thanks to all the shares on social media.

Hundreds of people are still missing as the death toll continues to climb from the historic storm. Search and rescue teams continue to search devastated areas for survivors.

Task Force 11 is heading back into the mountains to save more lives. The team will consist of volunteers from New Hanover County Fire Rescue and Wilmington, NC Fire Department. Thank you to all the brave men and women who are working day and night to help those in need.
