Neglected, Matted Dog Unrecognizable After Grooming

A majority of the 2.8 million dogs who enter shelters each year arrive matted and in need of grooming. This not only hurts their chances of getting adopted but can also be painful to the dog.

Jet (what we are calling him) was seen wandering the streets alone. When rescuers found him, the little black dog looked almost unrecognizable beneath layers of tangled, matted fur. Every knot was a reminder of the time he'd spent surviving on his own. But underneath the neglect was a sweet soul who still wagged his tail when someone spoke softly to him, as though he'd never stopped believing a better day would come.

Watch his transformation video below.

A trip to the groomer helped him shed layers of neglect and transform into the handsome fella hidden underneath. For the first time in a long time, he could move freely - and begin the life he'd always deserved.

Jet is ready to experience love for the first time in his life. This sweet boy is one of countless dogs who arrive at shelters or rescues in need of grooming and care.

Less than half of the matted and neglected dogs get the grooming they need to feel and look their best at the shelter. Many underfunded and overcrowded shelters are unable to afford these essentials.
