Puppy Digs Up Rare Coins Worth Over $7,000 On His First Walk To The Park

One family got a lot more than they bargained for when they purchased a truggle-digging pup named Ollie.

According to the Telegraph, 51-year-old Adam Clark bought Ollie, a lagotta romagnolo, for his daughter, 9-year-old Alicia.

The Italian breed may be adorable, but they don't always make the best house pets. The reason? They're notorious diggers.

According to the American Kennel Club, lagotta romagnolo are known for their truffle-hunting abilities. As a working breed, they're trained to sniff out and dig up delicate truffles that can sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars.

While little Ollie was a family dog and not a working dog, he seemed to have some natural instincts of the breed because his ended up unearthing quite a treasure on his very first walk to the park!

Clark was walking Ollie on their first outing together when the puppy instinctively stopped and began digging into the earth. A lot of dogs dig when they find something interesting like an old bone, but what Ollie found was much more valuable: 15 gold sovereign coins.

The coins are believed to date back to the 19th century and are valued at around £6,000 ($7,564)! Understandably, Clark was shocked at Ollie's discovery and also pleased that he made the decision to purchase Ollie.

According to the Telegrpah, Clark said: "We’d literally been walking for around ten minutes when Ollie suddenly stopped and started frantically digging away at the soil. That’s when he uncovered the pile of gold pieces—I couldn’t quite believe it."

Clark went on to refer to Ollie has his "gold hunting" dog. Hopefully they make many more discoveries in the future!
