Domestic Violence Survivors and Their Beloved Pets Now Have Safe Place to Go in Utah

According to RedRover, organization that helps animals in crisis, nearly half (48%) of domestic violence survivors stay with their abusers because they are concerned for their beloved pet. And less than 20% of U.S. domestic violence shelters allow pets.

With your support, our partner - Greater Good Charities (GGC)- is working on improving the number of domestic violence shelters that accept pets by creating pet-friendly spaces at existing shelters.

The most recent project took place in Utah where GGC staff and numerous volunteers (including RedRover) renovated the safe haven to turn it into a place where survivors and their pets can heal together.

It all started with individual pet retreats for both dogs and cats that provide a safe indoor space to encourage natural behaviors and reduce stress. The work continued outside to spaces that were redesigned to support both the physical and emotional well-being of survivors and their pets.

A secure chain-link play yard and individual pet relief areas with direct access from each retreat through dog doors allow pets to exercise, relieve themselves, and move freely while maintaining house-training routines.

But that's not all. The team also made several more improvements including a pet-friendly patio for more bonding and healing. Your donations helped make this transformation possible and provided essential pet supplies.

No one should have to choose between safety and a beloved pet. Donate today to keep more survivors and their pets together.
