Like Mike L., I also saw a black cat lying at the side of the road about one month ago, so I pulled over to move him away from traffic.

I am in the habit of moving “roadkill” to the side of the road because I believe dead animals deserve respect and should not continue to be run over by passing cars. I cannot tell you how many cars passed me while I was picking up the cat. People looked, but no one stopped to help.

Then the cat moved his tail and looked at me, showing me he was still alive.

There was a veterinarian about half a block away, so I took him there right away. Sadly, I was told he had died. I felt so bad.

I had him cremated, and he will be buried with me someday, probably soon, since I am now almost 80 years old. I do not have a picture of “Blacky Boy,” but I did get his nose print to wear on a chain around my neck.

The picture I sent is of my cat Charcoal, who came through my doggie door three years ago, took up residence, and decided to stay.
