After 49 years in Iowa, I moved to Phoenix in June 2020 to be with a friend, just as COVID hit.
I had been there for two weeks when my friend brought home five pit bull puppies and said, “I need you to take care of these babies.”

And that’s what I did. I bottle-fed them, got them all their shots, cuddled them, loved them, and found homes for all of them except the runt. She became my everything, and I named her Fiona.
In December 2024, I came back to Iowa. I was disgusted to discover how difficult it was—and still is—to find a place to live because Fiona is a beautiful Staffordshire terrier.
I’m currently disabled and having the worst time finding a decent place to live. Where I live now, the apartments aren’t being maintained. Everyone has mold, and management is doing nothing about it. I’m doing everything I can to advocate for us and help us all find homes so we can get out of this place before it kills us.

At least half of the people living here also have pit bulls. That’s why we’re here: The apartments allow them, but staying could cost us our lives. I’m also fighting to change the laws here in Iowa.
I will not give up my dog. She is not the problem. Humans are.
I have been clicking for free ever since I found out about it, and I will continue to do so. I also started playing a game called Treat that helps feed animals.
Thank you, ARL, for everything you do.
