Joselito came to my home on a hot day in August. My two indoor cats were going crazy looking out the glass back door, and then I saw him standing there outside. I took him in.

He was in bad shape. He had sticky stuff in his hair and he was very thin, so I fed him and gave him a bath. I kept him in my basement away from my other cats because I expected them to fight. My other two cats are very territorial.

My husband was out of town during this time. When he came back, I told him that I would bring Joselito back to health, then surrender him to a shelter. I thought that my husband would get attached to him as I did, but that wasn’t my intention.

I didn't have money to take him to a vet, so I cleaned his infected eye myself every day and I prayed that he would be okay. In a month or so, he got a lot better. He was a very sweet boy. He would sleep on my chest and play with toys, but he still needed to stay in my basement because my other two cats wouldn’t leave him alone.

Finally, I could make an appointment at the MHS and they neutered him. During his recovery, he took over a room upstairs, and that became his lonely place.

I grew very attached to him, but my husband insisted that he should go to a shelter because the other cats started to mark all over. They would fight him whenever they saw him. It would not be a good life for Joselito to be in a room by himself all his life. It wasn’t fair for him.

After three months, my husband surrendered him to the MHS in Westland, Michigan. I was heartbroken. But I thought that at least he would see other people and they would take care of him. After a week, I called the shelter because I wanted to visit him. They told me that he was already adopted. That was one of the happiest days of my life. He has a forever family who loves him now.

Thank you MHS of Westland for your good work!
