Luna’s journey began before she even opened her eyes.

I fostered her mom while working at our local Humane Society. She was very pregnant and gave birth almost immediately in my living room. Luna was born with a cleft lip and palate, and from the start, we knew her survival would require extraordinary care.

I tube-fed Luna for weeks to keep her alive. Because she would aspirate canned food, I carefully and slowly weaned her onto dry food. Every feeding was a lesson in patience and hope.

Against the odds, Luna didn’t just survive — she thrived.

In 2018, she became the first puppy our shelter ever sent to Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl. She proudly represented us on a national stage and has never forgotten it.

Luna went on to become a certified therapy dog through Love on a Leash, where she absolutely adores visiting children. Her gentle spirit makes her a natural comforter.

In 2024, she auditioned for and won the role of Toto in our local professional theater’s production of The Wizard of Oz. She was one of two Totos and was especially loved by the young cast members who played the Munchkins. Luna, of course, believed the entire production was created just for her.

She loves wearing her dresses, proudly holds a novice trick title, and continues to bring joy everywhere she goes.

Luna shares her home with several other special needs dogs, proving every day that challenges do not define destiny.
