Hiking through an industrial area one 95 degree summer day, I spotted what looked like a tiny bunny sitting in the middle of the street.

As I got closer, I saw it was a kitten, barely a month old. I picked him up. He was infested with fleas, and his ears were so full of mites that he never even heard me coming.

As I looked around for a box to put him in, I saw his twin, with some strange object sticking out of his mouth. He proved a bit more elusive, but two hours later, deep in blackberry bushes, I finally had him trapped.

When I looked at what he had in his mouth, I found out it was a dead, dried up slug. He was in the same terrible condition as his brother. We took them to the vet and discovered that they were infested with three types of worms, severely dehydrated, and near starvation.

We had them vetted and then took them home to bathe, feed, and rest while I began looking into rehoming them (We already had four rescued dogs and weren't looking to expand our family).

Fast forward almost three years later, and they are now part of our family! Not only do they get along great with the chihuahuas, they have also helped us with our foster boxers, determining how well they get along with cats.

I truly believe that fate intervened and put them there for me to see, and that they are right where they belonged all along!
