Hello, my name is Benay, and my beautiful mom, Brenda, and I rescued our sweet little boy from our local shelter the year after I lost my father and just two months after we lost our 19-year-old dachshund, Louie.

We saw Pepper sitting sadly outside in a corner. It was so hot, and he didn’t even want to come over to say hello. He just stayed there, quiet and withdrawn.

I told the man working at the shelter, “Please, can I see that little guy and hold him?”

It was complete love at first sight.

He was two years old, and his name was Pepper. At first, we thought we might change it, but then I said to my mom how rude that would be. We would only be changing his name for our own selfish reasons, and he already knew who he was.

So Pepper it was — and I just love it.

Now here is my angel boy at 10 years old, in all his glory. He is the best little boy anyone could ever ask for.

You are so loved, Pepper.
