Our cat, Tartsy, was my husband's favorite. Then he went into the hospital for three months. I was hardly home during that time, and poor Tartsy was alone most of the time. I felt so bad for her. When my husband finally came home, I kept hoping we could get another cat to keep Tartsy company. I strongly believe cats should have playmates.
About a month later, as my husband was making good progress, I brought up the subject again. He kept saying, "We'll know when the time is right." I wondered what that meant exactly.

Then one day, we were in our backyard with our neighbor, and I brought up the cat subject again. My husband's reply was the same. However, this time, a tiny kitten popped out of the woods next door. We all dropped our jaws. She was so tiny.
At first, I was reluctant to take her because I thought she might belong to someone. I knew how hurt and desperate I would be if she were my kitten and did not return home. A week later, she showed up again. That was it. She was mine.
She was very sick with congestion. After many visits to the vet, she finally came through her illness. She still suffers from asthma and often snores. We named her Teeny because of her tiny size. She became best friends with Tartsy.

Little did we know there were more kitties in those woods. They came out, and we fed them. We had them neutered, 10 in total, and with great difficulty got them to the vet for shots. We continue to medicate them every month for fleas and other issues, and we get them to the vet as needed. This is not easy, as they are strays.
Teeny stays inside with Tartsy. The others live outside, coming into a heated garage at night through a cat door we had cut into our back door. They all have names, and they are a great joy.
