Back in 2008, my now-husband and I were celebrating our one year anniversary as a couple. I begged him to go look at a kitten that my best friend's mom had at her home.
Her mom's cat was constantly giving birth and, sadly, she would give the kittens to the shelter and still didn't have mama cat fixed. Despite being unsure about cats, my now-husband obliged.
We arrived at her home and were greeted by the sweet mama cat. We were looking for one cat, and there happened to be two kittens left. I wanted a long-haired male, but the long-haired male kitten was hiding under a chair staring at us from afar.
Suddenly, a short-haired tabby with tons of energy came bounding across the kitchen table at us. She was attached to my husband instantly and so sweet and playful. My husband then asked me to step outside to talk for a moment.
As soon as the door closed, he looked at me and said, "We can't not take both of them," and so we took home our sibling babies Nora and Arlo.
They have moved to California, Colorado, and several places around Michigan with us. They were our office cats when we owned our own business and have become quite popular with our friends and family. They have very different personalities. Arlo is a Maine Coon mix who is quirky, very talkative, sweet, and a mama's boy! Nora is a tabby and very loving, loves to lick, is very playful, and is a daddy's girl.
Our lives have been enriched because of them. I'm so glad my husband agreed to just go "look" at those kittens, for it was a day that I will never forget. Our fur babies are our world, and we have done everything we have had to do, even in the toughest of financial times, in order to keep them. We said forever when we got them, and forever is what we meant.
