Senior Chihuahua Arrives at Shelter After Owner Passes Away
Andrea Powell
Shelter life is hard on animals, especially senior dogs and cats. The loud noises, isolation in concrete kennels, and unfamiliar people and scents takes a toll on these aging animals.
Most senior pets have spent their entire lives in a loving home and end up at shelter when their owner passes away. This is how a senior Chihuahua named Tucker found himself at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples.
The ten-year-old dog was heartbroken over the loss of his owner and the only home he has ever known. Change is hard.

Tucker was examined by a medical team and given vaccinations and preventive care (thanks to your support) against ticks, heartworm disease, fleas, and internal parasites to keep him healthy for years to come.
He returned to the shelter where he was treated to soft treats, a warm blanket, and cuddles from staff and volunteers. Your donations also helped make him comfortable while he settled into his new space.
He quickly warmed up to all the friendly faces around him and stole their hearts. He was one of the lucky ones who only had to wait a few days to find a new home.
The shelter shared, "Just a few days after arriving at the shelter, he caught the eye of an adopter who was specifically looking to give a senior dog a second chance."
