Every step and breath these senior horses took was a struggle...until they finally received the medication and care that allowed them to find comfort in their golden years.

Your donations funded these vital medications that will give these old souls the comfort they deserve to live out the rest of their lives on green pastures.

Meet some of the grateful recipients and learn how your donations are changing lives.

Red

The 32-year-old Quarter horse gelding arrived at Horses' Haven with an inflammatory skin condition on his lower legs, often called scratches, that wouldn't heal. Each step was painful. He underwent testing and his vet discovered that he has Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID), also known as equine Cushing's disease which requires daily medication to manage.

The medication can be costly for a rescue, but thanks to your donations they are able to provide it to Red and others who need it to thrive in their senior years.

His caretakers shared, "Treatment has allowed Red to blossom into a robust, sleek guy and has kept his scratches under control. Without treatment, Red would be living his golden years in pain. We are glad he's with us, where prompt diagnosis and treatment are priority and we are grateful to Greater Good for helping to lighten the financial load of having so many horses that need Prascend."

This gorgeous 22-year-old Arabian mare was owner surrendered and arrived at the rescue with a shaggy, patchy coat. Routine testing was done and like many other senior horses she tested positive for PPID.

She can live a full, long, and healthy life with a daily dose of medication called Prascend. The medicine has already greatly improved her health, and she is now shedding her coat.

The rescue told us, "Her topline has filled out wonderfully, her coat shed to a smooth brilliant red by the end of shedding season and she is sound, confident and ready for her new home. Without treatment, horses with Cushings disease tend to have continuous health issues that make quality of life and normal expectations for an adopter, hard to manage. Garnet will catch the eye of her perfect person with just looks alone thank you to Greater Good and Prascend!"

Alley

Alley was found in horrible condition with the lowest body score of one with every bone visible. The senior horse needed immediate care to survive. She was taken in by Redwings Horse Sanctuary and Rescue and slowly started on a refeeding program to help her regain her strength.

She has been neglected for a long time, and her hooves were severely overgrown, she needed extensive dental work and had painful stomach ulcers. The road to recovery was long and hard but Alley continued to fight.

Her dedicated caretakers were with her every step of the way. Her medical bills quickly added up, and she also needed daily medication to remain comfortable. Thanks to your generous donations, she received the care she needed and is now living her best life at the rescue.

"Alley's medical bills alone in her two weeks at Redwings were thousands of dollars but with the love and support of our dedicated team Alley beat all the odds and is now thriving at Redwings. The vet determined that Alley was around 30 years of age at the time of her rescue so she will remain at Redwings as a permanent resident for the rest of her years."

Little Bit

This miniature horse was born as a rescue and remained an ambassador for many years before retiring. He is now living the good life with a little dose of Prascend. The daily medicine helps keep him comfortable so he can graze and roam where he pleases.

Little Bit is grateful for your support and so is the rescue. They shared, "Little Bit has been an ambassador for Redwings and has been a staff and volunteer favorite for his entire life. At 26 this year we have decided to retire him from the ambassador program and just let him relax and enjoy sanctuary life. He is a cherished member of our herd."
