Last Wednesday, two catastrophic earthquakes, 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes, struck back-to-back in Venezuela demolishing buildings and homes, claiming nearly 2,000 lives, and displacing over 12,000 people.

Rescuers and family members have been scouring the rubble, some with their bare hands, desperately trying to find missing people and praying that they are still alive.

Hope is starting to fade as rescuers continue to search for the seventh day. However, family members are holding on to any sliver of hope they have left until the bodies are located.

Miraculous rescues are taking place like when a three-year-old was rescued after being trapped for six days. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez posted the rescue video on Facebook.

Another video was shared with the caption, "Every life saved is a victory for hope. More than 25,000 firefighters, rescue workers, police officers, military personnel, and emergency response team members are active and deployed, assisting everyone affected by the earthquakes."

Sadly, the death toll continues to rise with the most recent report on Tuesday stating 1,943 people have been killed and over 40,000 are still missing. This doesn't include lost pets.

Local hospitals are overwhelmed caring for critically injured people, so coffins line the docks at the temporary morgue, Port of La Guaira.

Search and rescue teams from other countries, including the U.S., are arriving to help. A recon team with Los Angeles County Fire Department is sifting through the destroyed buildings using sound, visual, and canines to locate survivors.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Virginia Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue are also working together with Los Angeles County Fire Department as part of the U.S. Department of State on the ground in Venezuela helping with rescue efforts.

The devastation is vast. Homes are destroyed and family members are dead or missing.

They need our support. Our partner, Greater Good Charities, is mobilizing emergency relief, including food and critical aid supplies, while assessing additional needs with partners on the ground.
