Help tapirs suffering from severe burns after devastating wildfires! Provide them with lifesaving medical care this holiday season.
The Pantanal, a Brazilian region home to the largest tropical wetland in the world, experienced its worst wildfires on record this summer. Millions of acres of land were destroyed, causing massive devastation that threatened the diverse wildlife inhabiting the area.
One of the many species affected by these fires were tapirs, the largest land mammal in the region. Many were badly burned, and some sadly did not make it out of the fires. The tapirs who have survived, like Melancia and Valente, have wounds that require immediate medical treatment.
Both Melancia and Valente are young tapirs who were rescued with devastating injuries. They suffered burns on all four paws and were severely dehydrated before being placed in intensive care. After they've healed, they will be rehabilitated before their release back into the wild.
We're partnering with Greater Good Charities to work with organizations on the ground who are providing lifesaving medical care to injured tapirs. This holiday season, help animals like Melancia and Valente heal.
