When Russia invaded Ukraine, millions of Ukrainians were forced to make an impossible decision—flee immediately and leave their beloved pet behind, or stand and face imminent danger for themselves and their pets. While many fled, those brave Ukrainians that stayed are now caring for the pets that were left behind.
Now, many Ukrainian animal shelters are operating out of makeshift facilities that have been impacted by the war, lacking consistent access to heat. With winter looming, these dogs have little opportunity to escape from the life-threatening cold.
