Brittany Furlan Lee, wife of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, witnessed her beloved dog, Neena, being attacked by a coyote and leaped into action.

Brittany let the couple's two dogs out in their fenced backyard to go to the bathroom while she watched by the door. Suddenly a coyote appeared and grabbed Neena and took off.

A Ring camera captured the heart-stopping moment and how Brittany's quick actions helped save the 10-year-old dachshund.

Like any mother would do in this situation, Brittany screamed as she raced after the coyote.

Thankfully, she was able to get to the coyote before it climbed the wall and she posted on Instagram, "Neena is safe. I climbed up the wall and grabbed her out of its mouth. Thank God she’s a little bit fat because he couldn’t make it over the wall with her. If it was teenie (their other dog) she would’ve been gone."

Neena was taken to a vet and while she is "shaken up" she is doing well with no puncture wounds or injuries. Brittany told her followers to, "Hug your babies extra tight".

The Lee family wants to share an important message with all dog owners. Brittany wrote, "A coyote came and grabbed Neena in broad daylight. Please be very careful with your dogs. I've lived here for four years and I've never seen one coyote and then today this happened. They are desperate."

While Brittany says she will no longer be letting her dogs out alone, there are additional ways to protect your dogs if you encounter a coyote in your backyard. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) suggests you start by being loud and making yourself large by yelling and waving your arms. Another option is to spray the coyote with the hose if they are not deterred by your loud presence.

HSUS also urges dog owners with small dogs to not leave them in the backyard unattended and to be alert on walks. They shared a list of tools you can bring along to deter a brazen coyote.

  • Noisemakers
  • Whistle or small air horn
  • Squirt guns
  • Pepper spray
  • Sticks or other objects to throw towards (but not at) the coyote
