Cat Saves Dog's Life During Vicious Attack

Cats aren't known to be particularly affectionate or caring, but they certainly can rise to the occasion when needed. They can even be downright heroic when those that they care about are in danger!

Take little Mocha, for example. She lives in Nampa, Idaho with her doggy sister, Bailey, and their owner, Michaella Franklin.

She may not seem like she loves her family on a daily basis, but when the situation calls, she steps up to help.

That was seen when Franklin was doing some work with 7-year-old Bailey in the garage. Suddenly, one of the neighbor's large dogs appeared. The dog was wandering freely with no owner in sight and as soon as he saw Bailey, he pounced.

The large dog threw himself at little Bailey in Franklin's garage and began to maul the poor dog. According to Idaho News 6, Franklin tried to separate the dogs by pulling their collars but the large dog refused to let go of Bailey.

When pulling them didn't work, Franklin tried using a bike pump to get the dog off her pup but that didn't work either. It's likely that Bailey would've been killed in the attack if not for what happened next.

Out of nowhere, the family cat, Mocha, pranced into the garage and distracted the large dog for enough time that Franklin could get Bailey to safety.

In an interview with Idaho News 6, Franklin said, "Bailey is alive today due to my cat, Mocha. Without a doubt."

Bailey didn't get away uninjured. In fact, he had to undergo surgery after sustaining several deep bite wounds, a procedure that racked up a $2,000 veterinarian bill.

Nampa Animal Control cited the attacking dog’s owner for the incident but it's unclear if the owner will have to pay for Bailey's vet bills or face any consequences.
