New Data Shows Cigarette Smoking Is At An All-Time Low In The United States

When I was a kid, I remember being told smoking was bad. But at the same time, it seemed like the whole world smoked.

However, according to a government survey's data, cigarette smoking within the United States has now dropped to an all-time low!

Back in 2022, the National Center for Health Statistics conduced a survey of 27,000 adults aged 18 and over, in order to ask them questions about their health.

During that survey, only 1 out of 9 adults said that they currently were smokers. That is a stat of 11.2%. This number definitely pales in comparison to the 42% of US adults who were smokers back in the 1960s.

Then, between the years 2001 and 2003, the average number of US adults who were cigarette smokers was 35%. From there, the rate has been on a steady decline over the years, leading up to an all-time low percentage in 2022.

While this might be good news, there is still a way to go as e-cigarette use is on the rise - it went up to almost 6% in 2022, which was a jump from the 4.5% from the year before!

There is still awareness to be raised amongst the younger members of our society, as the CDC reported data shared that only 2% of high school students were smoking traditional cigarettes, versus the roughly 14% who were into using e-cigarettes.

What do you think of the statistical findings? Are you a smoker or are you trying to quit? Let us know!
