Woman Incensed to Receive Job Rejection Letter Mere Minutes After Applying

Applying for jobs has never been a fun chore for any of us. It's tedious, potential employers take forever to get back to you (or never get back to you at all), and you never know exactly what about your profile or your resume ended up turning off the hiring manager. Even if you're lucky enough to get in for an interview, you're still not guaranteed to get a call back, and you may never get the feedback you need to do better the next time.
For most of us, the lack of communication and the length of time we must wait to receive it is one of the hardest parts of looking for a new job. But for one woman, the exact opposite situation was the problem.
TikTok user @heathermaekathryn revealed in a video that she applied for a job as a Music Touring Assistant with the Creative Artists Agency. She was shocked when the company got back to her within 20 minutes to let her know that her application had already been rejected.
Heather posted screenshots that showed that she had submitted her application at 11:00 am. Her rejection letter arrived in her inbox at 11:20 am on the same day.
"Dear Heather Kathryn, we appreciate your interest in CAA and the time you have invested in applying for Assistant – Music Touring," the rejection letter began. "While we were impressed with your background, we have chosen not to move forward with your candidacy at this time."
Of course, there was no explanation as to why Heather wouldn't be moving forward with an interview. We're guessing that's because nobody at the company actually took more than a couple of seconds to look at her application before discarding it and sending a form letter back to her. They may even have had a bot scanning applications for particular key words and automatically rejecting anything that didn't seem promising without a human being even having to lay eyes on the application.
Heather, on the other hand, seems to think her age and the resulting lack of experience were the ultimate causes of her rejection. "Can someone give the 22-year-old a chance PLEASE," she wrote in the caption of the video.
Other TikTokers commented on the video and shared similar experiences. One said that they had experienced being rejected for a job within eight minutes of applying. Another had once gotten a rejection letter before they even got the confirmation email that the application had been submitted and received.
Some commenters believe that the company probably already had someone picked out for the job but were required to post the opening online anyway in an effort to appear like things were being done fairly.
"And I hate that," Heather responded. We hate it for you too, Heather. It doesn't make sense for rules like this to exist if companies are just going to skirt around them by rejecting anyone who puts in the time and effort to apply.
