Murfreesboro, Tennessee Police Department is praising K9 Kari for helping save a dog after Helene

The five-year-old bloodhound and her handler, Officer Angela Alexander, were working alongside a Kingsport Fire Department (KFD) search team when Kari started "barking uncontrollably" at a large tree.

They looked up and spotted a dog stranded about 20-feet up sitting on a pile of debris.

As luck would have it, KFD firefighters found a tall ladder nearby that had been washed away in the flood water and used it to rescue the dog.

"The funny thing about Kari is she is not fond of other dogs but this time it was different," Officer Alexander said. "I'm so proud of her helping to find something good in all the devastation caused by the flooding."

It is a miracle the dog survived. The amazing rescue was shared on Facebook where one person commented, "Poor baby. Must have been traumatic. So happy she was rescued!!"

This story has a happy ending. The dog was turned over to animal control and has been reunited with its owner.

"A glimmer of hope amidst the flooding devastation from Hurricane Helene in East Tennessee," posted MTPD.

The good dog has been commended by her fellow officers and people near and far. This heartwarming rescue story is hopefully just one of many to come out of disaster areas.

Hundreds of people are still missing as the search continues a week after Helene tore through the Southeast. Countless people lost their homes and need help.
