For many of us, one of the great benefits of working from home is not having a strict manager or annoying coworker constantly looking over our shoulders...unless, of course, you have a pet. Because we all know our cats, dogs, and other animals can be some of the most demanding and annoying creatures we've ever met, especially while we're trying to get some work done.

For Tim Lightell, a digital media producer at GreaterGood, his at-home manager is a four-pound rescue dog named Otis. Otis came from an overcrowded shelter in California and was originally just a foster that Tim and his partners took on for rescue organization Dog Gone Seattle, but they later decided to make him a permanent member of the household...and the workplace.

Luckily, the four-year-old pooch is typically a pretty hands-off boss, choosing to spend most of his time sleeping in Tim's office rather than overseeing his work. But on this particular day, Tim recounts, he took his headphones off to hear how loud a dog's bark was in a particular video he was editing, and Otis sat up and took notice.

"He jumped up from his bed and perched near my computer station and looked super interested, shifting his head back and forth," says Tim. "In general, he doesn’t really like other dogs, so I think he was a little irritated, but maybe just curious. I also think he was just trying to figure out what was happening."

Otis is a very curious dog. He often reacts when an animal comes on the TV screen or when he sees a bird, bug, rabbit, or other creature while he's outside. But Tim says he's also about the laziest dog on the planet, preferring to sleep over everything else.

Tim isn't planning on giving up his headphones anytime soon, so Otis's rest isn't likely to be disturbed much in the future by the sounds of other animals on Tim's computer screen. I suppose we should be happy for Otis...but it's hard not to also wish for more fun videos like this one.
