Greater Good Charities and the Animal Rescue Site are conducting emergency flights to evacuate pets to safety

Hurricane Helene left a 500 mile swath of death and devastation in its wake. The historic storm battered the Gulf Coast before churning inland, through Georgia and the Carolinas, dumping feet of rain onto the already drenched Appalachian Mountains. Flood waters have wiped entire towns off the map and left at least 180 people dead. Then, less than two weeks later, the massive Hurricane Milton hit and disrupted any recovery and cleanup efforts that were started.

Amidst this destruction, countless pets have been displaced from their families, overwhelming already crowded animal shelters that are struggling to keep these pets safe as their staff deal with flooding, power outages, and devastating personal losses.

In partnership with The Animal Rescue Site, Greater Good Charities is conducting emergency flights to evacuate pets outs of areas hit by Hurricane Helene. These homeless pets were in shelters prior to the hurricanes, and they'll get a chance at finding forever families. This will make room for newly displaced and injured pets, giving them a chance to be reunited with their families. These pets need your help to reach safety.

These poor shelter dogs and cats desperately need your help to be flown to safety. Will you pitch in?

See all the emergency flights we've helped fund here:

10/16/24: Third Emergency Flight (Coming Soon!)

On Wednesday, October 16, we will be flying nearly 60 cats who are currently being cared for at Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter in Tennessee. These lucky kitties will find new homes in the Pacific Northwest.

10/12/24: Second Emergency Flight

In partnership with Southwest Airlines and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, we were able to airlift 145 shelter pets from the southwest. The pets flown on this emergency flight were in the care of animal shelters in Tennessee and Florida prior to the two hurricanes. To secure their safety and ensure the impacted organizations could serve the needs of their communities, the shelter pets were transferred to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue’s South Carolina Rescue Campus in Florence, S.C. The campus serves as a life-saving transport hub for shelter pets in the South where pet overpopulation exceeds the capacity of local adoption.

10/2/24: First Emergency Flight

On October 2, a Flight to Freedom departed storm-ravaged South Carolina carrying 125 lucky shelter dogs and cats. These pets had been residents in South Carolina shelters. By flying them to new homes in Wisconsin we're giving those shelters a chance to take in lost pets after the storm. These cats and dogs will now start new lives with adoptive families in the Midwest.
