Help crowded shelters make room for displaced pets during the Los Angeles area wildfires!
The wildfires currently ravaging California have left animal shelters overwhelmed, with thousands of pets displaced, injured, or lost. Local shelters report taking in hundreds of pets. Many of these shelters were already beyond capacity and they are struggling to provide care for all the animals in need.
On January 17, we flew over 50 shelter pets out of Southern California and made room for displaced pets. LA shelters are still overcrowded and need our help as injured and lost animals continue to arrive.
Greater Good Charities is working with LA County officials to coordinate emergency pet transports to move shelter pets from California to shelters with open kennels. These pets were already in shelters before the wildfires, and these transports will help create space for the newly displaced and injured pets that need urgent care. With your help, we can give these pets a chance at a brighter future.
We need YOUR help now! Donate now to help evacuate shelter pets and make room for those impacted by the wildfires.
Emergency Flight - January 17
Thanks to your support, The Animal Rescue Site helped sponsor an emergency pet transport that departed on January 17 from San Diego and headed with precious cargo to Northern California and Oregon.
Over 50 shelter pets - who were looking for homes before the fires - will get a second chance and the open kennels will be filled by injured and displaced pets that continue to arrive at shelters.

Meet Some of the Pet Passengers
Senior Kitty, Itty
This sweet kitty started her life at San Diego Humane almost 9 years ago and has found herself back in the care of the shelter after her owner, sadly, passed away. Itty originally arrived at the shelter as a tiny kitten, needing intensive care to survive. After being bottle fed by a foster she was adopted in 2015. Now she's about to take flight for the next chapter of her life!

Brendon the Husky
This sweet and smiley guy has been with San Diego Humane since August 2023, working with the dedicated staff there at their specialized Behavior Center to overcome some of behavioral challenges. Staff at the Center report that he has improved spectacularly. He's affectionate, responsive, and loves to play and romp around!

Mellie the Sweetheart
Mellie was a stray, brought to San Diego Humane needing surgery to repair an umbilical hernia. After healing from the procedure, Mellie began to reveal her loving personality, quickly becoming a staff and volunteer favorite. She became a regular participant in the Dog Day Out program, enjoying adventures to San Diego’s Old Town, Liberty Station and Cabrillo National Monument for a hike along the coastal trail. The volunteers who spent time with her described her as extremely affectionate, people-oriented and outgoing.
