Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc on several states causing widespread power outages, flash flooding, and unimaginable damage. 

Whole towns have been washed away. Search and rescue teams continue to enter devastated areas to help the survivors. Several animal shelters found temporary foster homes before the storm hit but are now in need of additional space to care for the shelter pets and displaced pets. 

Shelters are overwhelmed with some having two to three pets in a one kennel. That is where you can help. 

On October 2, The Animal Rescue Site and Greater Good Charities are conducting an emergency flight to evacuate shelter pets affected by Hurricane Helene.

The flight will be filled with roughly 100 dogs and cats who were waiting before the storm for homes and get a second chance in Wisconsin. 

The open kennels will allow shelters in the devastated areas to care for stray pets until they are reunited with their owners. 

Meet some of the passengers on the emergency flight below. 

Orlando

This shy two-year-old was rescued from a rural shelter. Shelter life is hard for him, especially with all the recent events. He is ready to find his person in Wisconsin. 

Skittles

The one-year-old Labrador retriever mix has lived through not one but two hurricanes. The shelter shared, "She came into the shelter after flooding from Hurricane Debby and now is being transported to Wisconsin in response to Hurricane Helene. We know this is going to be her final move, and she can find that perfect home that she deserves."

Sigrid

This sweet mama longs for a home of her own. She arrived at the shelter pregnant and gave birth to her puppies. They have all grown and found loving homes, but Sigrid is still waiting. Her caretakers know that she will find her person in Wisconsin. "We are so excited to see her get her flight out and we know she is going to get her chance to be a shining star and be the focus of someone’s whole world."

Wellington

Meet this "low rider" Dachshund mix that loves people. Wellington is two years old and beyond ready to meet new friends and find his forever home. 

Bessie

Bessie took shelter near the home of a shelter worker and is finally getting the care she needs. She is a happy and healthy cat who wants to find a loving home.

These adorable fourteen-week-old kittens were taken to the shelter by a local who feeds the community cats. The friendly felines are ready for their next adventure and to find a purr-fect home.
